The Paradise, Andaman
and Nicobar nested in the midst of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, is
one of the seven Union Territories India have and a true gem for the beach
lovers.
With the huge coconut trees running down the
crystal white beaches and sparkling blue water to lure you, the “Untouched
Paradise” has a long area of tropical rainforests to amaze you with an
extraordinary wildlife experience.
Andaman and Nicobar Island is considered as
one of the top when it comes to best Honeymoon destinations in India. From deep
sea diving to a magnificent drive through the backwaters, this group of Islands
has lot to offer to every category of traveler.
Weather and best time to visit:
Though you won’t be able to witness severe
drop or rise in temperature throughout the year, still the best time to visit
is from September to March. Since the New Year and Christmas is the most
popular season, so you should plan accordingly if you are visiting the Havelock
Island. If you don’t like too much of crowd and want to spend some quality time
with your loved ones, then my suggestion will be to avoid the Mid December- Mid
January period.
Reaching Andamans:
Port Blair is the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair is the major airport and well
connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
Tip: Book well in advance and you can get
quite a handsome discount on 2 way bookings. Avoid festive season.
Next option is to travel through sea. The 66
hours of adventure takes you through the splendid Bay of Bengal. You can start
this ship voyage either from Chennai or Kolkata. Avoid this option if you are
travelling with children below 5 years.
Visit Andamans for:
The Radha Nagar beach is voted the best beach in Asia. So if you
are visiting Havelock Island then you should visit this beach alongside
Elephant beach and Kalapathar beach. Keep one complete day for local
sightseeing where you can visit the Cellular Jail, Aberdeen Bazar, Mount
Harriet National Park, Naval Marine Museum.
The other Islands to visit are Jolly Buoy
Island, Red Skin Island, North Bay Island, Ross Island, Neil Island & Viper
Island. You can also visit Baratang to witness the Mud Volcano, Limestone
Caves. The journey of Baratang will take you through the lush green forests
where Jarawa community lives.
Important tip while packing for Andamans:
This is the place where the sun meets the sea.
So, mandatory inclusions for your backpack will be high SPF sunscreen lotion,
sunglasses and hat. If you are going for deep sea diving and to enjoy swimming
then swim suit is what you should look for. Try to include more of light
clothing.
Staying in Andamans:
You can choose from plenty of hotels, resorts and hostels in the
vicinity of Port Blair. Hotels range from as low as 1500 per night and goes up
to 18000 per night. Students and bachelors can also opt for hostels. Below are
my favorite options:
Luxury option: Coral Reef Resort.
Budget option: OYO Rooms.
